Summer 2025 in my garden

Photo Competition

These photographs were taken in Marden gardens between during June, July and August 2025. The hottest UK summer on record.

Please take time to vote by sending an email to info@mardengardeners.uk with the number of your favourite photograph in the subject line. The photograph with the most votes will win a £10 garden voucher for the person who took it and will be entered in the Best Photograph of the Year Competition 2025/6, with the chance to win a £20 garden voucher, at our next AGM.

The closing date for entries is 14th September 2025

Photograph 1 - taken 1st June 2025

Rose Charles De Mills, flowers for three weeks with a fabulous perfume but does like to travel through the beds popping up everywhere! I have a love/hate relationship with it.

Photograph 2 - taken 18th August 2025

"A new arrival at the pond".  The moorhens raised a second brood this summer.

Photograph 3 - taken 18th August 2025

Our garden has not been at all photogenic this year, sadly, so instead I've been trying to capture the insects that call it home. This is a Large White butterfly on Verbena bonariensis - both very common species in gardens, but no less lovely for being 'ordinary' (in my opinion)!

Photograph 4 - taken 24th July 2025

A chance encounter with this garden visitor happened when he briefly landed on our patio doors and I was able to snap him from the inside.

Photograph 5 - taken 2nd July 2025

Calendula in my veg border kept away the carrot fly and I was able to grow baby carrots for the first time.
